Everyone should know Joy
Books, coffee, and nowhere to be.
A bookstore café rooted in Saturday mornings, coming to Brooklyn Heights in 2028. An escape in the Catskills, open Fall 2026.
This business is named after my late mother, Helen Joy Otabor. A strong, loving, stylish Nigerian-Edo woman who made Saturday morning library trips a ritual for me and my brothers. Those Saturday mornings became the origin of my lifelong love of reading and an inheritance she gave us without knowing she was giving it. This place is built in her honor.
Whether you find us over a cup of coffee in Brooklyn or at our escape in the Catskills, we hope you are able to slow down, stay a while, and leave with a good book.
The Café - Brooklyn Heights, 2028
An independent bookstore café on Atlantic Avenue. Specialty coffee, curated books anchored by authors of color, and a space designed for lingering. Titles focused on grief, rest, and joy.
The Escape - Catskills, Fall 2026
A literary retreat in the Hudson Valley for people who need a weekend with no agenda. Good light, good books, and nowhere you have to be.
